摘要
本研究以142名英语专业学生为对象,主要探讨元语篇对听力理解的作用,并探讨其与学习者话题熟悉度及整体语言水平之间的关系。根据学业成绩,全体学生被分为水平相当的两组,分别听同一个TEM8(Test for English Majors-Band8)微型学术讲座的不同版本(含元语篇和不含元语篇)并完成相同的任务(细节回顾、概要写作、填空)。研究结果表明:1)元语篇对听力理解的促进作用显著;2)话题熟悉度与听力理解间似乎并不呈简单的线性关系,其作用需在元语篇的辅佐之下方能最大程度地得以彰显;3)元语篇对不同语言水平学生提高听力理解率的贡献有差异,受益大小依次为中等水平、高水平和低水平学生。
This study explores the role of metadiscourse in listening comprehension,and examines the relationship between metadiscourse and topic familiarity,as well as between metadiscourse and language proficiency.The study employed 142 English majors as participants,who were,based on their achievements,divided into two groups with similar language proficiency and listened to two different versions of a TEM8(Test for English Majors-Band 8)mini-lecture,one with metadiscourse and the other without.Both groups were required to finish the tasks of detail-recalling,summary-writing and blank-filling after listening.Significant research results are as follows upon the completion of the statistical analysis:1)Metadiscourse facilitates listening significantly.2)There seems to be a non-linear relationship between topic familiarity and listening comprehension,i.e.only with the help of metadiscourse can topic familiarity facilitate listening comprehension.3)The contribution of metadiscourse is not exactly the same to listeners with different language proficiencies:average achievers benefit the most while low achievers benefit the least.
