Rites, music, archery, riding, writing and arithmetic are known together as "Six Classical Arts". These arts were first included in the curriculum of the public school in Western Zhou Dynasty. Later, they became part of Confucian education, which considered six arts as the fundamental skills and required scholars to master them. In Confucianism, sensation is the starting point and also the destination of six arts because six arts draw our attention to the ability in personal life, the skills in social life, the ways to cultivate affection and the method to construct spiritual space. The influence of six arts is cast on the aesthetic part in life much more than on the intellectual and physical training. In this sense, the aesthetic meaning of six arts leads us to recognize the quality of aesthetic education conveyed in six arts. From the perspective of the aesthetic education curriculum system, the six arts provide useful and profound implications for curriculum structure, course design and teaching methods in contemporary aesthetic education.
