摘要
菲利浦·拉金在许多诗歌中表达了对昔日英国花园的眷恋和对工业化城市风景的痛爱。当诗人看到人类任意地虐杀动物和蹂躏自然风光时,他感到无比的痛心。在诗作中,拉金隐透着一种寻觅英国花园——诗意栖居之地的情愫。在拉金看来,丽的自然风光、自由玩耍的动物、清新而又质朴的生活等是构成英国花园的重要元素。拉金借其诗作奉劝人类应该尊重动物,保护神圣、美丽的自然;呼吁人类简单、质朴地生活,诗意地栖居在地球花园中。
Philip Larkin expresses his nostalgia for the old English garden and abhorrence for the exploitation and poisoning of landscape by industry in many of his poems. The ill-treatment of animal and the rape of the sanctuaries of nature make Larkin extremely sad. In many of Larkin＇ s poems one can detect his seeking for a poetical dwelling place --the most beautiful English garden. To Larkin, natural scenery, playful animals and simple life are the making of the English garden. Implicitly, the poet attempts to suggest man should respect animal, preserve the beauty of nature and poetically dwell on the Earth garden.
