摘要
连贯是个有争议的概念,语言学家的见解各有千秋,但又都不甚全面,本文对Halliday和Hasan提出的连贯理论从三个方面作了评述与补充,认为连贯是情景语境内篇章的最终整体效果:当在内部、外部、线性、不同层次上都衔接时,篇章就形成一个语义整体;当衔接关系与情景语境相连时,篇章的功能得到正常发挥;两个条件均具备时,篇章就连贯。
The notion of coherence is a controversial concept. Quite a few linguists have discussed it from different perspectives. Their theories are valid in one or two aspects, but none of them is comprehensive and some should be modified and elaborated. This paper discusses and complements the theory of coherence established by Halliday and Hasml from three aspects. The author is of the opinion that coherence is the final total effect of the text in the context of situation： when the text is cohesive internally and externally, linearly and at different levels, the text forms a semantic totality; when the cohesive relations are related to the context of situation, it performs its proper function; when both of these conditions are met, the text is coherent.
