摘要
库切在《等待野蛮人》中对“帝国”概念的探讨显示出他对后殖民社会深入骨髓的理解,也给欧美文化界带来了深刻的影响。笔者认为哈特和奈格里所著《帝国》一书中的“帝国”概念是库切小说中“帝国”的进一步延伸,或者可以说是沿着库切的思路开拓出来的。这个“帝国”是库切理想中的帝国,是一个具有强大包容性的后殖民主义帝国,它与小说《等待野蛮人》中乔尔上校所代表的霸权帝国相对立。
So far, six of Coetzee＇ s novels have been translated into Chinese in China's Mainland, of which Waiting for the Barbarians is the most significant. This novel reveals his profound understanding of ＂empire＂ and has magnificent influence on Western literati. The book Empire by Negri and Hardt can be regarded as a further exploration derived from Waiting for the Barbarians. In the novel, there are two sorts of empires, represented by the Old Magistrate and Colonel Joll respectively. The present author will cite the novel as an example to study Coetzee＇ s perception and enunciation of the postcolonial empire.
