Tong Gan(Synaesthesia), an essay written by Qian Zhongshu has exerted great influences upon critics after its publication, however, the English translation of this term as "Synaesthesia" has undermined the concept of "Xin gan" ( sensation), one of the key terms of the Chinese traditional poetics. In consequence, this longstanding Chinese concept has been mistaken as a borrowed term from the Western criticism, and resulted in the loss of Chinese poetics heritage. The related studies show that the notion of "Xingan" has made a great contribution to poetics wordwide, and it must reclaim its own significant position. "Tong gan" and "Xingan" seem to differ in just one Chinese character, yet it matters greatly insofar as about the protection of Chinese critical tradition, to which we should pay great heed and attach great importance.
