Clinical outcomes after HVC infections vary from asymptomatic infection to cholestatic hepatitis and rarely to liver failure. This article reviewed the current research status on the pathogenesis of long-term asymptomatic HBV infections, which included risk factors, viral mutations, gene integrations and host immune responses. These recent findings are helpful to develop new strategies for preventing and treating HBV asymptomatic carriers.
