The paradox involved in fighting a world war for four freedoms,while at the same time upholding racial segregation,was too obvious in the United States.Although the Second World War failed to move the issue of civil rights into the forefront of American life,its anti-fascist nature and the economic development during the war had a great impact on American society,and provided African-Americans with unique opportunities to fight for civil rights during and after the war.The quest for dignity and self-expression in the African-American community developed in those years.The war stopped the control of the racists in American society by white people and pushed forward the development of the civil rights movement.
