摘要
根据原著改编的电影《喜福会》(1993)可以被看做是美国华裔生活的经典之作。《面子》(2002)与《挽救面子》(2004)在很多方面与《喜福会》有同工异曲之处,都表现了华裔母女间、中美两种不同文化间的冲突和矛盾以及这种冲突在互相理解中的圆满解决。但这只是问题的一个方面,更重要的是这三部影片都在不同程度上展现了美国多元社会发展的轨迹,在一定意义上说,也探讨了华裔女性追求"解放"的企图,而这正是暗合了近年来美国文化一个变化发展。
The film The Joy Luck Club(1993) adapted from the novel of the same title has already been considered a classic in the representation of Chinese Americans,especially Chinese American women in the United States in the past few decades.In many ways,the other two films,Face(2002) and Saving Face(2004) share a similar theme with The Joy Luck Club,in terms of the conflict between mothers and daughters as well as the one between Chinese culture and American culture.The conflicts are resolved eventually to everyone's satisfaction,to the satisfaction of Chinese audience in particular, to some degree.This is,however,only one side of the coin.What is more important is to see the films as a window into American life and society.In other words,the theme of liberation presented in the films are to be understood in the context of American prototypes,namely,the pursuit of the self and the search for the value of multi-cultural life.
