Abstract Zhu Ziqing(1898-1948), a native of Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province, was a modern Chinese essayist and poet. He began to write poetry in the vernacular in his school days,and later became known as an essayist. He was professor of Chinese literature at Tsing Hua University and SW Associated University. The essay, The Sight of Father's Back, written in October 1925, is one of his early prose works. The lyrical essay is written in refined spoken language, but its greatest appeal lies in richness of sincere feeling. The deep affection between father and son as depicted in the essay is deeply moving.
