Location privacy receives considerable attentions in emerging location based services.Most current practices however either ignore users' preferences or incompletely fulfill privacy preferences.In this paper,we propo...Location privacy receives considerable attentions in emerging location based services.Most current practices however either ignore users' preferences or incompletely fulfill privacy preferences.In this paper,we propose a privacy protection solution to allow users' preferences in the fundamental query of k nearest neighbors (kNN).Particularly,users are permitted to choose privacy preferences by specifying minimum inferred region.Via Hilbert curve based transformation,the additional workload from users' preferences is alleviated.Furthermore,this transformation reduces time-expensive region queries in 2-D space to range the ones in 1-D space.Therefore,the time efficiency,as well as communication efficiency,is greatly improved due to clustering properties of Hilbert curve.Further,details of choosing anchor points are theoretically elaborated.The empirical studies demonstrate that our implementation delivers both flexibility for users' preferences and scalability for time and communication costs.展开更多
Low-power laser therapy has been used for the non-surgical treatment of mild to moderate carpal tunnel syndrome,although its efficacy has been a long-standing controversy.The laser parameters in low-power laser therap...Low-power laser therapy has been used for the non-surgical treatment of mild to moderate carpal tunnel syndrome,although its efficacy has been a long-standing controversy.The laser parameters in low-power laser therapy are closely related to the laser effect on human tissue.To evaluate the efficacy of low-power laser therapy,laser parameters should be accurately measured and controlled,which has been ignored in previous clinical trials.Here,we report the measurement of the effective optical power of low-power laser therapy for carpal tunnel syndrome.By monitoring the backside reflection and scattering laser power from human skin at the wrist,the effective laser power can be inferred.Using clinical measurements from 30 cases,we found that the effective laser power differed significantly among cases,with the measured laser reflection coefficient ranging from 1.8% to 54%.The reflection coefficient for 36.7% of these 30 cases was in the range of 10–20%,but for 16.7% of cases,it was higher than 40%.Consequently,monitoring the effective optical power during laser irradiation is necessary for the laser therapy of carpal tunnel syndrome.展开更多
Much study has been done in the study area linking Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) interpreted results to lithologies in the subsurface though only tend to indicate the vertical changes with the aim of mapping the ...Much study has been done in the study area linking Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) interpreted results to lithologies in the subsurface though only tend to indicate the vertical changes with the aim of mapping the occurrence of groundwater aquifers. Several boreholes have been drilled in the study area, though not much has been done to compare the vertical and lateral lithologic changes in the study area. This research is based on VES modelled geoelectric layers compared from point to point and using borehole logs as control data to establish inferences of certain lithology in the subsurface. The inversion of each VES curve was obtained using an AGI Earth Imager ID inversion automated computer program and resistivities and thicknesses of a geoelectric model were estimated. The analyzed VES data interpretation achieved using the curve matching technique resulted in mapping the subsurface of the area as portraying H-type;ρ<sub>1</sub> > ρ<sub>2</sub> ρ<sub>3</sub>, K-type;ρ<sub>1</sub> ρ<sub>2</sub> > ρ<sub>3</sub>, A-type;ρ<sub>1</sub> ρ<sub>2</sub> ρ<sub>3</sub>, Q-type;ρ<sub>1</sub> > ρ<sub>2</sub> > ρ<sub>3</sub>, representing 3-Layer subsurface and subsequently a combination of HK, HA and KHK types of curves representing 4-Layer and 5-Layer in the subsurface. The analysis further deployed the use of the surfer software capabilities which combined the VES data to generate profiles running in the west-east and the north-south direction. A closer analysis of the curve types indicates that there exists a sequence showing a shifting of the order of arrangement between the west and the east fragments which incidentally coincides with VES points 8, 9 and 10 in the West-East profiles. The lateral change is noted from the types of curves established and each curve indicates a vertical change in the subsurface. Control log data of lithologies from four boreholes BH1, BH2, BH3 and BH5 to show a qualification that different resistivity values portent different lithologies. The proliferation of forums and blogs leads to challenges and opportunities for processing large amounts of information. The information shared on various topics often contains opinionated words which are qualitative ...The proliferation of forums and blogs leads to challenges and opportunities for processing large amounts of information. The information shared on various topics often contains opinionated words which are qualitative in nature. These qualitative words need statistical computations to convert them into useful quantitative data. This data should be processed properly since it expresses opinions. Each of these opinion bearing words differs based on the significant meaning it conveys. To process the linguistic meaning of words into data and to enhance opinion mining analysis, we propose a novel weighting scheme, referred to as inferred word weighting(IWW). IWW is computed based on the significance of the word in the document(SWD) and the significance of the word in the expression(SWE) to enhance their performance. The proposed weighting methods give an analytic view and provide appropriate weights to the words compared to existing methods. In addition to the new weighting methods, another type of checking is done on the performance of text classification by including stop-words. Generally, stop-words are removed in text processing. When this new concept of including stop-words is applied to the proposed and existing weighting methods, two facts are observed:(1) Classification performance is enhanced;(2) The outcome difference between inclusion and exclusion of stop-words is smaller in the proposed methods, and larger in existing methods. The inferences provided by these observations are discussed. Experimental results of the benchmark data sets show the potential enhancement in terms of classification accuracy.展开更多

This systemic precipitant...Atherosclerotic diseases is a diffuse process that involves the coronaries, carotids, renals and all other peripheral arteries owing to the systemic nature of atherosclerotic pathophysiology. This systemic precipitants that promote aggressive atherogenesis have been confirmed in multiple studies showing a relationship between atherosclerotic disease in one vascular bed with disease in another. However, the strength of this relationship varies from patient to patient. Thus, the practical utility of the diffuse nature of atheresclerosis is questionable. Ge and colleagues have proposed the use of left main (LM)coronary artery disease as a potential marker for left anterior descending (lAD) atherosclerotic disease. At first thought, this seems useless since the evaluation of the LM (by angiography or IVUS) can just as easily be performed in the LAD so why bother searching for such a surrogate? However, newer (non-invasive) imaging modalifies are making great gains and will be able to reliably image the LM sooner than the LAD (especially the distal LAD) so such a surrogate could have practical applications.展开更多
Induction of broadly neutralizing monoclonal antibodies(bNAbs)that bind to the viral envelope glycoproteins is a major goal of hepatitis C virus(HCV)vaccine research.The study of bNAbs arising in natural infection is ...Induction of broadly neutralizing monoclonal antibodies(bNAbs)that bind to the viral envelope glycoproteins is a major goal of hepatitis C virus(HCV)vaccine research.The study of bNAbs arising in natural infection is essential in this endeavor.We generated a human antibody,8D6,recognizing the E2 protein of HCV isolated from a chronic hepatitis C patient.This antibody shows broadly neutralizing activity,which covers a pan-genotypic panel of cell culture-derived HCV virions(HCVcc).Functional and epitope analyses demonstrated that 8D6 can block the interaction between E2 and CD81 by targeting a highly conserved epitope on E2.We describe how the 8D6 lineage evolved via somatic hypermutation to achieve broad neutralization.We found that the V(D)J recombination-generated junctional and somatic hypermutation-induced disulfide bridge(C-C)motif in the CDRH3 is critical for the broad neutralization and binding activity of 8D6.This motif is conserved among a series of broadly neutralizing HCV antibodies,indicating a common binding model.Next,the 8D6 inferred germline(iGL)was reconstructed and tested for its binding affinity and neutralization activity.Interestingly,8D6 iGL-mediated relatively strong inhibition of the 1b genotype PR79L9 strain,suggesting that PR79L9 may serve as a potential natural viral strain that provides E2 sequences that induce bNAbs.Overall,our detailed epitope mapping and genetic studies of the HCV E2-specific mAb 8D6 have allowed for further refinement of antigenic sites on E2 and reveal a new mechanism to generate a functional CDRH3,while its iGL can serve as a probe to identify potential HCV vaccine strains.展开更多

文摘为解决地热资源的勘探开发问题,基于新型的Landsat-8热红外遥感数据,采用大气校正法(RTE:Radiative Transfer Equation)反演出辽东地热区在2014年不同月份的地表温度,并将反演结果中的高温异常区与研究区内已知温泉点的空间分布特征进行对比,结果表明,两组数据在8、9月份时具有很高的空间相关性。该方法及结果对于探明辽东地热资源的空间分布及进一步勘探开发具有重要的指示意义。
