Some of the previous studies indicated that the performance of ship operation would be affected by variables of vessel calls, such as ship size, container loaded and container discharged would affect the handling rate of ship operation, but it didn’t clarify on the degree of relationship and lack of variable container shifted/restowed. Therefore, this study would further study on the softcoming, to analyse the relationship between variables of vessel calls with berth turnaround time, that affected the ship operation’s performance. Extensive observation and survey activities were conducted at Malaysian’s Port and the collected data was based on ship operation delay parameters;like berth turnaround time, total move, total discharge, total load, shift/restow, and length overall of vessels. The initial result showed that total move, total discharge and total load had high correlation with berth turnaround time. The r-value of total move, total discharge and total load are 0.877, 0.716 and 0.804 respectively. Therefore, this study concluded that the berth turnaround time is highly affected by total move, total discharge and total load. Consequently, the research output would be as a decision making tool to port planner.展开更多

End wall and blade tip surface static pressures were also obtained, in addition to flow visualisation studies. A strong horse-shoe vortex forms in front of the leading edge for zero clearance whereas this vortex does not appear for 3 percent clearance indicating that for large clearance the pressure forces have dominating infiuence than the viscous forces. In addition to normally known clearance vortex, a small tip separation vortex was noticed on the blade tip surface inside the tip gap. Due to the area contraction caused by the tip separation vortex, the fluid movign towards the tip gap from the pressure side is accelerated. Downstream of the vortex, the endwall pressure increases due to flow mixing. Both vortices increase in size and strength along the chord. The miring is incomplete in the aft portion of the blade. The tip gap velocity profiles exhibit wak like characteristics especially at axial positions where the mixing is incomplete. The passage vortex in the present investigations did not diminish with increase in clearance. The discharge coefhcient and the total pressure loss coefficient within the tip gap show similar tendency with lower values near the leading and trailing edge regions.展开更多

Accordingly, it becomes necessary to investigate the effects of the radiation and air pressure on insulation materials. This paper describes the effects of gamma-ray irradiation and reduced pressure on dielectric breakdown of polybutylene naphthalate (PBN) and polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) by applying a DC pulse voltage. Both PBN and PBT were irradiated in air up to 100 kGy and then up to 1 000 kGy with a dose rate of 10 kGy/h by using a60Co gamma-source. The effects of total dose and reduced pressure on the time to dielectric breakdown and discharge quantity were discussed. Obtained results show that, while increasing the total dose, the discharge quantity decreased with PBN, but increased with PBT. With decreasing the air pressure, the discharge quantity increased with PBN, but decreased with PBT. With increasing the total dose, the time to dielectric breakdown increased with PBN, but decreased with PBT. With decreasing the air pressure, the time to dielectric breakdown increased with both PBN and PBT. The experimental results suggest that the chemical structure of polybutylene polymers plays a main role in the result of radiation reaction, which is related to cross-linking and degradation reaction.展开更多
