In late 1940s, the outbreak of the cold war has profoundly influenced the global political, economic and cultural pattern. The cold war was pursuing a kind of cold war thinking, which was characterized by “the absolute duality opposite between two ideologies”. The cold war mentality deeply affected the Chinese contemporary literature during its germinal and developing period. Through the national willpower, the cold war determined the formulation of the literary policy, restricted the expression of the direction and dimension of the literature, and became an important historical factor pushing the literary policy towards the extreme in the period from 1949 to 1976. The establishment of the “writing heroes” model and the selection of translation literature themes were controlled by the cold war mentality. Influenced by cold war thinking, literary debates also evolved into political criticism, which lost their literary position.
