摘要
在语言智能时代,大规模语言模型机器翻译给翻译理论及实践带来诸多机遇和挑战。本研究应用纽马克的翻译理论,分析中成药药品说明书的英文翻译,对比ChatGPT和人工翻译的优缺点,以期在固定格式中得出较好翻译策略。研究结果显示,当前中成药说明书的英译现状参差不一:机器翻译在功能主治术语的译文往往缺乏完整性;相对而言,鉴于部分专业术语较为复杂,翻译结果在准确性和规范性方面有欠缺;无论是机器还是人工翻译,针对中英文语篇的翻译过于注重两者结构的形式对等,忽略了对目标读者对应国家或地区的考虑,存在结构不完整,互动性较少等问题。研究发现交际翻译理论对外用中成药说明书的英译具有一定的指导作用,在翻译过程中应考虑到不同读者的认知结构,使用对应的语言风格,进一步实现翻译的交际效果,使译文表达语义准确且通俗易懂,从而加强译入语读者对药品信息的理解,提高目标语读者对中医药产品的认可度。
In the era of language intelligence, large-scale language model machine translation brings many opportunities and challenges to translation theory and practice. This study applies Newmark’s translation theory to analyze the English translation of instructions for Chinese patent drug, com-paring the advantages and disadvantages between ChatGPT and human translation, with a view to arriving at a better translation strategy in a fixed format. The results of the study reveal as follows: Machine translation tends to lack completeness in the translation of functional terms. Given the relative complexity of some terms, the expressions also lack accuracy and standardization, which can easily cause misunderstandings. In addition, the English translation of the discourse, whether by machine or human translation, puts too much emphasis on the formal equivalence of the Chinese and English discourse structures, lacking consideration for the country or region of target readers. Therefore, they suffer from a lack of completeness and interactivity of the discourse structure. The study concludes that the theory of communicative translation has provided certain guidance for the English translation of instructions for Chinese patent drug, focusing on the cognitive structure of different audience groups and using corresponding language styles, which can help machine and human translators further realize the communicative effect of translation, make the translation semantically accurate and easy to understand. As a result, it can reduce users’ misunderstanding of medicine information and improve their recognition of traditional Chinese medicine.
