司徒雷登在第二次国共内战期间任美国驻华大使。任期内 ,以美援为手段和条件 ,极力敦促国民党政府进行美国式的民主改革。同时 ,多方阻挠共产党加入联合政府或在联合政府中占多数席位。其目的是干涉中国的内政。随着国民党败退台湾 ,美国的干涉主义外交政策在中国遭到彻底失败。
John Leighton Stuart was the US Ambassador to China during the Second Civil War between the KMT and the CPC. During his term of office by means of and as a term of American assistance he urged the KMT government to carry out the American type democratic reform. Meanwhile he tried in many ways to prevent the CPC from joining the coalition government and occupying the position of the majority. His purpose was to interfere in the internal affairs of China. With the KMT retreat to Taiwan in failure, the US foreign policy of interference suffered complete failure.
