摘要
于19世纪60年代担任美国驻华全权公使的蒲安臣在早期中美关系发展中占有重要地位,因此曾长期受到历史学家的关注。自上个世纪初即有美国学者开始就蒲安臣进行相关的基础性研究,而伴随近年来国内中美关系史研究队伍的逐渐壮大,相关研究不断得到深入。这些研究一方面取得了许多重要学术成果,另一方面也表现出了一些既存的问题。本文就中美历史学界在蒲安臣研究上所取得的学术成果进行概述,以期对新阶段早期中美关系、晚清外交的拓展性研究有所贡献。
As the minister plenipotentiary of the United States to China in the 1860 s, Anson Burlingame had occupied an important position in the early development of Sino-US relations, so he had long been concerned by the historians. Since the beginning of the last century, American scholars had began to carry out related basic research on Anson Burlingame, with the increasing of the research team of Sino-American relations in China in the 21 th century, the related research has been continuously deepened. On the one hand, these studies have made many important academic achievements, on the other hand, they have also showed a few of existing problems. In order to promote the study on early Sino-US relations and diplomacy in the late Qing Dynasty in the new stage, this paper summarizes the academic achievements made by scholars in China and America in the study of Burlingame.
