Aqueous gel permeation chromatography or low-molecular-weight lignosulfonates from pulp industry was performed with a porous silica-based μ-Bondagel E-125 column and calibrated with sodium polystyrene sulfonate standards. No evidence of adsorption was observed when an appropriate eluent.0. 01 mol/L NaCl/ CH3CN (80/20), was employed at a flowrate of 0. 8 ml/min. The results of molecular weight and its distribution of sodium lignosulfonate sample so determined (Mn=973,Mw=1927,d = 1. 98)were similar to those analyzed with μ-Styragel series column (Mn = 1124, Mw=2234,d = 1. 99),while with the latter desulfona-tion of lignosulfonate is needed before tetrahydrofuran elution.
