摘要
鸦片战争后,中华文明体作为一个政治实体虽屡经挫折仍然顽强地生存下来。1949年人民共和国成立时,中国基本保留了清朝的人口和地域边界。1997年费孝通先生曾提出中国人"文化自觉"的命题,中央近期提出要加强"文化自信"。纵观历史风云变幻,有哪些因素促成中华文明体的形成与发展?有哪些因素使得中国经过百年奋斗,再次获得"凤凰涅槃"一样的新气象?中华文明具有什么特质,得以在几千年漫长历史中塑造出中华文明共同体在人口边界和地理边界方面的结构体系和演变轨迹,并在西方工业文明冲击下仍能坚持探索一条不同的文明发展之路?这些是我们今天必须思考和回答的问题。
After the Opium War,Chinese civilization survived as a political entity in spite of repeated setbacks. When the People’s Republic of China was founded in 1949,China basically preserved the population and territory boundaries of the Qing Dynasty. In 1997,Fei Xiaotong advanced the proposition of the 'culural consciousness' of the Chinese people,and recently the central government of China has called for strengthening 'cultural confidence' of the Chinese people. For that matter, it may be helpful for us to take a retrospective look at the social and cultural changes in Chinese history and figure out the answers to the following questions about the Chinese civilization community. What factors have promoted the formation and development of the Chinese cultural community? What factors have enabled China to once again bask in the 'Phoenix Nirvana' atmosphere after a hundred years of struggle? What qualities have made it possible for the Chinese civilization community to shape its structural system and evolution in terms of its population and geographical boundaries in thousands of years while persisting in exploring a different path of development under the impact of the Western industrial civilization?Those are the questions we have to think about and answer today. The studies of those issues might help us better understand the special development road China has chosen under the pressure of the Western civilization.
