China-ASEAN cultural diversity and cultural similarity measurement and their investment effect

摘要文化是影响地缘经济合作的重要因素,对文化进行测度并佐证文化的经济效应,对于地缘经济合作的有效开展具有重要意义。以中国—东盟地缘经济区为例,基于语言、族群、宗教等多维度对中国和东盟国家的文化多样性及相似性进行测度,发现:①东盟国家存在较高的文化多样性,但在整体文化多元中又存在显著的单一类别文化极化现象;②相对而言,中国与新加坡、越南、老挝、缅甸、柬埔寨的文化相似性较高,与菲律宾、文莱的文化相似性较低。进一步,基于文化多样性与文化相似性的测算结果实证研究二者对中国—东盟投资合作的效应,发现:①东盟国家的文化多样性对中国企业投资东盟国家具有显著的负向效应,而中国与东盟国家存在的文化差异对中国投资东盟国家同样具有负向作用;②中国与东盟国家开展文化外交活动有利于促进双方的文化认同并增信释疑,对中国与东盟国家的投资合作有正向的直接和间接溢出效应。 Culture is an important factor affecting geo-economic cooperation.It is of great significance to measure culture and prove the economic effect of culture on the effective development of geo-economic cooperation.Taking the China-ASEAN geo-economic zone as an example,this article measures the cultural diversity of China and ASEAN countries as well as the cultural similarity between China and ASEAN countries based on multi-dimensions such as language,ethnic groups,religion,genes,etc.It is found that:①ASEAN countries which lie in the geo-fragmented region have higher cultural diversity,but there is a significant single category of cultural polarization in the overall cultural diversity;②The cultural of ASEAN countries in generally similar to that of China.Relatively speaking,the cultural similarity between China and Singapore,Vietnam,Laos,Myanmar and Cambodia are relatively high,while the cultural similarity between China and the Philippines and Brunei are relatively low.Furthermore,on the basis of the results of cultural diversity and cultural similarity measurement,this article empirically studies the effect of the two on China-ASEAN investment cooperation,and finds that:①Both cultural diversity and cultural differences of ASEAN countries have significant negative effect on Chinese enterprises’investment in ASEAN countries;②The cultural diplomatic activities between China and ASEAN countries is conducive to promoting the cultural identity of both sides,enhancing trust and clarifying doubts,thus have a positive spillover effect on investment cooperation between China and ASEAN countries.
