The corrosion of the major equipment in the 500,000 tpy atmospheric-vacuum distillation unit in Shenghua Refinery was described and the corrosion mechanisms and causes were analyzed. It was suggested that the 'one removal and three injections' should be adopted for the low-temperature section and surface modification and appropriate material selection such as Cr5Mo, 12Cr2AlMoV and 316l etc should be practiced for high-temperature section to control the corrosion.
