The concept of'hero'exists in the west and China since the ancient times, but the definitions differ. From the perspective of dictionaries, encyclopedia and semantic etymology,it is concluded that both Chinese and western heroes are admired for their courageous deeds or great qualities. However,Chinese heroes are selfless, with both literal and martial capability whereas western heroes can be the central fictional characters,or originally the dead and declined gods acted as protectors. But most importantly, western heroes are primarily immortal semi-gods in ancient myth.
