Sources of error in a measurement of a filament diameter by laser diffraction method are studied theoretically and experimentally. Results demonstrate that the measurement can achieve 1% repeatability for thin wire diameter, which ranges from 50 to 20 μm, using the simpler apparatus of He Ne laser and the digital signal processing.
