Their Eyes Were Watching God is a representative novel of American black woman writer Zora Neale Hurston.Janie,the female protagonist,breaks the bond of the convention and becomes an independent woman with feminist consciousness.She is not willing to be a tool for work of her first husband and the decoration of her second husband.She searches for her identity and finally finds and under stands her position.Black woman are oppressed by both racial and sexual discrimination,only with the awakening of feminist conscious ness and the relentless pursuit can they achieve self-fulfillment.Janie is an influential character in American feminist and African-Ameri can literature.This work can be recommended as a classical work in the history of African-American literature.
