摘要
利用语料库语言学的手段,通过自建两个小型语料库,从词汇(标准化类符形符比、词汇密度、平均词长)、句子(平均句长)和语篇(高频词"the"和"of"及显性连接成分的使用)三个方面对理雅各和许渊冲的《诗经》英译本进行对比分析。结果表明两个译本翻译风格存在较大差异。理译的词藻更为华丽,增加了大量功能词、定冠词、介词和连词等,其译文在英语本族语读者看来会更加自然流畅;而许译用词简洁朴实,避免过多增加功能词、定冠词、介词和连词等,句法结构简单,篇幅短小,能够很好地再现原诗的音美、形美和意美。
This paper uses Word Smith,along with statistical methods,to make a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the type / token ratio,lexical density,mean word length,mean sentence length,the use of 'the'and 'of'and conjunctions of two English versions of Shi Jing by James Legge and Xu Yuancong from a corpus- based approach. The result shows that there exist great differences between the two translation versions. By adding many functional words,'the','of'and conjunctions,Legge makes his translation more natural and fluent. With fewer functional words,articles and conjunctions,Xu's version is a short one with simple words and sentence structures,yet it best represents the beauty in sound,form and meaning.
