摘要
《西厢记》堪称中国四大古典戏剧之冠。奚如谷和伊维德英译《西厢记》考究严密,忠实原剧,乃文学与戏曲界的巨大成功。其副文本丰富、严谨,兼具学术性与趣味性。本研究聚焦奚和伊译本副文本的构成、功能、成因与启示。文章介绍了该译本的内副文本(封面、导言、插图、注释、附录等)和外副文本(译者访谈、读者评论)的内容,分析了其副文本所具有的揭示原作主题、描绘中国文化、建构经典形象及彰显翻译思想四大功能,阐释了译本背后译者立场、副文本创作惯习两大副文本成因。最后,本文就中国古典戏剧英译副文本生产总结出十大启示,旨在为不断促进中国古典戏剧在英语世界的传播提供借鉴。
The Story of the Western Wing can be regarded as the crown of the four classical dramas in China.With close research and being faithful to the source text,it was translated by Stephen H.West and Wilt L.Idema.It is also a tremendous success in literature and opera.The paratexts in it are rich,rigorous,academic and interesting.This study focuses on the formation,function,factors and enlightenment of the paratexts in The Story of the Western Wing by Stephen H.West and Wilt L.Idema.The article introduces the peritexts of it such as cover,foreword,introduction,illustrations,annotations,appendix,etc.and epitexts of it including the interviews of translators and reader comments.It also analyzes the four functions in its paratexts of revealing the theme of source text,describing the Chinese culture,building the classic images and revealing the translation thoughts.The factors of the translator’s position and the creation habit of using paratexts have been explained as well.Eventually,the paper summarizes ten pieces of enlightenment on the production of paratexts of the English translation of Chinese classical dramas to provide reference for the continuous promotion of the spread of the classical dramas in the English-speaking world.
