摘要
美国作家菲兹杰拉德的小说《了不起的盖茨比》具有现代主义先锋性质。作品使用了象征、隐喻等手法,其中色彩的运用尤为突出。本文试从显性白色意象与隐性白色意象的角度,分析这些意象对人物性格的多方面建构。白色意象的反复出现与组合,被作家赋予了既纯洁又空洞的双重象征意味,蕴含着菲兹杰拉德对“美国梦”、虚华腐朽的美国上流社会的认识与反思。
The novel The Great Gatsby by American writer Fitzgerald is modernist avant-garde.The work uses symbolism,metaphor and other techniques,among which the use of color is particularly prominent.This paper tries to analyze the construction of the characters’features from the perspectives of dominant white imagery and recessive white imagery.The repeated appearance and combination of white imagery is endowed by the writer with a dual symbolic meaning that is both pure and empty,containing Fitzgerald s understanding and reflection on the“American Dream”and the vanity and decay of American upper-class society.
