摘要
空气质量对居民行为和经济活动的影响得到广泛关注。文章利用2015—2019年283个地级市及以上城市的面板数据,使用OLS、2SLS模型实证分析了空气污染对城市消费活力产生的影响,并使用微观数据对可能机制进行分析。结果显示,空气污染对城市消费活力产生显著的负面影响。文章还采用热逆温天数作为空气污染的工具变量,2SLS估计结果依然稳健。在异质性分析中,空气污染对城市消费活力的影响存在地域差异,南方城市的空气污染对城市消费活力具有显著的负面影响,而北方城市未受显著影响;空气污染对城市消费活力的影响存在城市规模差异,小型城市的空气污染对城市消费活力具有抑制效应,而大型城市、中型城市未受显著影响。在微观机制分析中,空气污染通过降低劳动生产率与增加居民医疗保健消费支出来降低城市消费活力。研究结论为改善空气质量以激发城市消费活力提供了经验证据。
The influence of air quality on residents'behavior and economic activities has been widely concerned.Using panel data from 283 prefecture or higher-level cities from 2015 to 2019,we examine the impact of air pollution on urban consumption vitality.We find that air pollution has a significant negative impact on urban consumption vitality.The 2SLS estimates are still valid when we use the number of thermal inversion days every year as an instrument variable for air pollution.The results of heterogeneity analysis suggest that there are geographical differences in the impact.Air pollution only has a negative effect on consumption vitality in Southern cities.The impact also varies with city sizes,which has a negative impact in small-sized cities and the adverse effect is insignificant in medium and large-sized cities.In the micro-mechanism analysis,air pollution adversely affects urban consumption vitality by reducing labor productivity and increasing residents'health care consumption.The research conclusion provides empirical evidence for improving air quality to stimulate urban consumption vitality.
