The Su Shi-edition Lankavatara Sutra was initially engraved in the Jinshan Temple in Zhenjiang in the eighth year of the Yuanfeng Era of the Northern Song Dynasty(1085);re-engraved in the Dongchan Dengjue Temple in Fuzhou in the third year of the Yuanyou Era(1088). The Su Shi-edition Lankavatara Sutra printed in the Song Dynasty has long been lost in China, but in collections of each in the Tofukuji Temple and the Tou Temple in Kyoto, Japan. This article reviewed the discovery and research of these Japanese collections, based on which discussed the engraving and printing time, place, version, handwriting, and other issues of them. The article suggested that these Japanese collections were reproduced in the Dengjue Temple in the third year of the Yuanyou Era, copying the previous Yuanfeng edition. The preface by Jiang Zhiqi and the postscript by the monk were possibly added in the style of Su Shi or by himself. The Tofukuji Temple and Tou Temple collections were from the same edition but not printed at the same time nor of the same quality;they are one of the earliest editions seen so far and embody significant historical, artistic, and academic values.
