In recent years, under the influence of the affective turn in the humanities, the affective dimension of literature has become a hot research topic. In 2013,the much renowned American literary critic Fredric Jameson proposed that affect should be a source of midnineteenthcentury realism, attracting scholarly attentions on the affective dimension of realism.Departing from Jameson\s study on affective realism, this current essay examines the affective representation of realism with a broader time framework so as to provide a more comprehensive understanding of development of affective dimensions in realism. It is believed that the early eighteenthcentury formal realist novels fostered the surfacing of nameless affects by presenting a fortune of emotional representations. In the midnineteenth century,at the height of realism, narrative means aimed at capturing the embodied flowing quality of affect burgeoned and matured.Since the twentieth century on,renovations in narrative form and content gave rise to more multiple and pluralized development of realist affective representations.
