A 25-day feeding trial was conducted to determine the optimum dietary vitamin E level for the Juvenile crab, Eriocheir sinensis from Megalopas to juvenile crabs at stage Ⅲ. Vitamin-free casein, gelatin, dextrin and fish oil were used as primary feedstuffs, and six isonitrogen and isocalrio purified experiment diets (E0, E1, E2, E3, E4 or E5) were formulated to supply different levels of dietary vitamin E (0, 10, 20, 40, 60, 80 mg/100 g diet respectively). The result showed that the weight growth rate, survival rate and ecdysis frequency of the juvenile crabs at stageⅢ fed with 20 mg/100 g diet and 40 mg/100 g diet were 436.06%, 51.17%, 2.54 and 487.61%, 61.50%, 2.58 respectively, significantly higher than those of other groups (P<0.05). and the weight growth rate, survival rate and ecdysis frequency of the juvenile crabs at stage Ⅲ were significantly reduced by feeding VE- deficient diets , such as E0 were 264.94%, 26.17% and 2.21 respectively. However these same criterions of the juvenile crab at stage Ⅲ fed with 80 mg/100 g diet lowered, similar to control group,Which were 253.31%, 29.83%, and 2.28 respectively. This indicated that excessive VE could reduce normal growth, survival and esdysis. Vitamin E is one of the essential nutrient for maintaining juvenile crab's normal development, survival, and ecdysis. The optimal vitamin E levels for juvenile crabs were 20~40 mg in 100 g diet.
