摘要
《三国演义》这部小说虽以战争为主线,但其中的主要人物所表现出来的“义”贯穿了整部小说,因此,“义”的多义性能否在译本上还原,其多义性对应的翻译选词有何特点,翻译方法如何,这些翻译选词和方法受什么因素影响等话题都是非常值得研究的。文章基于皮埃尔·布迪厄的社会学,以量化统计和质性分析相结合的方法对小说第一卷的罗慕士译本和虞苏美译本做了“义”的英译对比研究。研究发现,罗译本和虞译本在翻译选词上存在明显差异,罗译本中honor和loyal占比较大,虞译本则更偏向于使用loyalty和justice。此外,翻译方法上也各不相同,罗慕士偏向释译和厚翻译,虞苏美偏向浅化翻译甚至省译。文章认为,翻译差异主要受译者主观能动性、译者惯习、译者资本和其他行动者等因素影响。
ThoughSan Guo Yan Yi,one of the most famous Chinese literary classics,takes on war as the main line,the “Yi”of the main characters runs throughout the novel.Therefore,whether the polysemy of “Yi” can be restored in the translation,the characteristics of diction corresponding to its polysemy in translation,the translation methods,and the factors affecting translation word choices and methods are worth studying.Based on the sociology of Pierre Bourdieu,this paper makes a comparative study of translated versions by Moss Roberts and Yu Sumei by the combination of quantitative statistics and qualitative analysis.Based on the analysis of these two translated texts,it found that Moss Roberts and Yu Sumei chose various words to translate Yi.In the former translation,“ honor” and “loyal” for Yi occupy a large proportion,while the latter translation is more inclined to use “loyalty” and“justice”.In addition,the translation methods are also different.Moss Roberts prefers interpretation and thick translation,while Yu Sumei prefers translation that is easy to understand,even the method of omission if needed.According to the article,translation differences are mainly influenced by the factors like the translator’s subjective initiative,different habitus,capitals,subjectivity,and other actors.
