从《文心雕龙》英译看翻译在中西文论对话中的作用

摘要中国古代文论的扛鼎之作《文心雕龙》,经过施友忠、宇文所安和杨国斌的翻译终于被英语世界接受,西方读者由此改变了中国没有成体系文论的认识,中国文论也因为得到外国读者的接受而获得了重新认识和评价自己的机会。从《文心雕龙》的英译发现,翻译在推进中国文论走出去、推动中西文论对话、促进世界文化多样化发展方面发挥着重要作用。翻译没有所谓的终极译本,每一次翻译都是对源文的补充与延伸,都是对源文的无限趋同,但是永远都无法等同于源文。中国文论只有变得足够强大,拥有话语权才能与西方展开真正平等的对话。译者也是中西文论对话的参与人,应尽可能忠实传达原作的本来面目,坚守本民族文化特色,秉持文化自信,防范故步自封,如此方能成为对话的促进者。中西文论对话的双方只有在平等的基础上才能积极主动畅所欲言,对话才能呈现良性互动的局面,健康有序地持续下去。 Wenxin Diaolong,a masterpiece of ancient Chinese literary theory,through the translation by Vincent Yu-chung Shih,Stephen Owen and Yang Guobin,has evenfually been accepted by the western world.Western readers have changed their understanding that there was no systematic literary theory in China,and the Chinese literary theory has,through the acceptance of foreign readers,been given the opportunity to re-recognize and evaluate itself.From the English translation of WenxinDiaolong,it is found that translation plays an important role in advancing Chinese literary theory to go global,promoting the dialogue between Chinese and Western literary theories,and carrying forward the development of world cultural diversity.There is no so-called ultimate translation.Every translation is a supplement,extension and infinite convergence to the source text,but it can never be equal to the source text.Only when the Chinese literary theory becomes strong enough and has the discourse power,can we have a really equal dialogue with the West.As a participant in the dialogue between Chinese and Western literary theories,translators should faithfully convey the original features of the original works,stick to their own cultural characteristics,uphold cultural confidence and guard against complacency,and only in this way can the translator become a promoter of the dialogue.Only on the basis of equality can both sides of the dialogue on Chinese and Western literary theories speak freely and actively,and the dialogue can present a situation of benign interaction and continue in a healthy and orderly manner.
