摘要
石黑一雄在其早期作品《浮世画家》中,讲述了主人公小野从少年到老年漫长而又充满矛盾的“艺术人生”,揭示了主人公在各种“艺术主张”中的困惑、彷徨和突围。国内外一些学者从身份认同、文化冲突、历史书写、后殖民、叙事特色和伦理等层面对该小说进行了探讨,并得到了一些有意义的结果。本文引入语象叙事视角,研究语象叙事在《浮世画家》的情节展开、人物形象塑造、主题揭示中所发挥的具体作用。主人公少年时期的自然风景素描,青年时期为谋生而大批量绘制的“工业品”画作,壮年时期为纯美理念而绘制的浮世绘和为鼓吹军国主义而绘制的宣传画,以及晚年指导外孙绘制的海报画,构成了《浮世画家》完整的语象叙事链条,形象地勾勒出一名执着于实现艺术抱负却错用了天赋的画家的一生。
Kazuo Ishiguro in his early work An Artist of the Floating World,tells the long and conflicting“artistic life”of the protagonist Ono from his adolescent years to his old age,uncovering Ono’s confusion,struggle and breakthrough along with his various“artistic ideas”.Studies from both home and abroad have been done from the perspectives of identity,cultural conflicts,historical writing,post-colonization,narrative features,ethics,etc.This paper,taking ekphrasis as its theoretical stance,aims to study the specific role played by ekphrasis in this novel’s plot development,character portraiture and theme exposition.From the landscape sketches in Ono’s boyhood to the mass production of art works painted for a living and the Ukiyoe solely for beauty’s sake in his youth,from the propaganda posters mainly for militarism in his maturity to the film posters that Ono in his old age guides his grandson to draw,a complete narration characterized by ekphrasis is built in the novel,which also brings to life an artist who is determined to realize his artistic ambition but in fact wastes his talents.
