摘要
太平洋关系学会曾是20世纪初期国际学界研究远东问题的知名智库,中国学和中共学是学会长期研究的主题和重点。太平洋关系学会面向西方社会解读中国共产党,在中共学研究领域成果丰硕,影响了西方社会对中国共产党的认知,以及美国政府对中国共产党的态度和对华政策。太平洋关系学会成为反共的麦卡锡主义重点攻击目标,也是美国国会、联邦调查局等政府机关反共调查的重点对象。太平洋关系学会及其主要成员的有关涉共诉讼最终全都胜诉,但社会声誉遭受严重损害,最终因丧失资金来源而不得不解散。太平洋关系学会对中国共产党的解读及其遭遇,反映了西方社会的中共观,也反映了中国共产党强大的国际影响力。
The Institute of Pacific Relations used to be a well-known think tank for the study of Far East issues in the international academic circles.China Studies and Chinese Communist studies are the long-term research themes and focuses of the Institute of Pacific Relations.The fruitful research results on the CPC have had a great impact on the Western society’s view of the CPC.And it has also had a great impact on the United States’attitude towards the CPC and its policy toward China.The institute has become a key target of anti-communist McCarthyism and a key target of anti-communist investigations by government agencies such as the U.S.Congress and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.Though the institute and its main members eventually won all lawsuits involving the CPC,its social reputation suffered severe damage,lost the source of funds and had to be dissolved.The interpretation of the CPC by the Institute of Pacific Relations reflects the Western society’s views of the CPC and the powerful international influence of the CPC.
