摘要
诗话是中国古典文论的一种重要形式。作为中国诗话的典型代表,严羽《沧浪诗话》在西方的英译与传播已有近百年历史,诞生了多种英语译本。本文选取具有代表意义的首译张彭春译本和哈佛大学汉学教授宇文所安的译本作为考察对象,借鉴勒弗维尔的翻译诗学理论对这两种英译进行从宏观到微观、从文化到文本的对比分析:首先对比两位译者分别选择英译《沧浪诗话》的诗学考量,进而剖析两个译本在主题内容、文论术语以及修辞手法英译方面的异同,在此基础上考察两个译本在美国得到成功传译的诗学原因,以期对中国文论思想走向西方英语世界有所启发。
Shihua(诗话)is one of the concepts of classical Chinese literary theories.As a representative work of the Chinese shihua,Canglang Shihua(沧浪诗话)by Yan Yu(严羽)of the Song Dynasty has been translated into English for more than once during the past century,producing several different versions.This paper makes a comparision of two representative translations of Canglang Shihua rendered respectively by the Chinese scholar Chang Pengchun(张彭春)and the American sinologist Stephen Owen based on Andre Lefevere’s translation theory about poetics.It first compares the poetic consideration of the two translators in the process of their translation of Canglang Shihua.Then the paper analyses both the similarities and differences of the two translations,focusing on their English translation of the subject matter,terminology and literary devices of the original Chinese work.Finally,it reveals the reason why the two translations have both been well received in the U.S.,with the hope that it might shed light on the future English translation of classical Chinese literary theories.
