摘要
近代西方来华基督教传教士为了消解中国文化对其传教活动的抵制,开始全盘否定以儒学为代表的传统文化。他们认为儒家“五伦”只是基督教所主张的“三伦”中的“一伦”,“五伦”不支持科学技术的发展;宣称基督化的西方文明模式是世界发展的唯一道路,并且是判别文明与野蛮的标准。传教士的“三伦观”与“文明论”在“戊戌时代”知识精英中产生很大影响,并延伸到五四新文化运动时期,在中国近代知识分子身上注入了激烈反传统的“文化因子”。
To eliminate the resistance of Chinese culture to their missionary activities,Western Christian missionaries began to completely negate the traditional culture represented by Confucianism.They believed that the Confucian“five Cardinal principles”were one“basic principle”among the“three cardinal principles”advocated by Christianity and that it did not support the development of science and technology.The missionaries claimed that the model of Christianized Western civilization was the only way for world development and was the criteria for distinguishing civilization from barbarism.The missionaries’“views of three principles”and“theory of civilization”exerted great influence on the intellectuals in the Hundred Days Reform,and extended to the period of the May 4th Movement,injecting radical counter-tradition“cultural factors”into early modern Chinese intellectuals.
