摘要
立足其所提出的前指参照用法,挪威学者阿斯海姆近年对限定摹状词的指称性用法提出了挑战,断言不存在限定摹状词的真正指称用法。事实上,阿斯海姆对限定摹状词用法的分析存在不少问题,主要表现在:对实质性指称用法的分析存在着不清晰性和不彻底性;其立足塞尔的主要方面和次要方面思想,对限定摹状词的指称性用法的反驳不充分;将归属性用法与罗素对限定摹状词的分析相对应的做法也是错误的。究其实,限定摹状词的前指参照用法与指称性用法、归属性用法只不过是不同视角的解读,其间并不存在实质性冲突或矛盾,前指参照用法并不如阿斯海姆所认为的那样,可以替代或否定指称性用法。
Based on the anaphora use of definite descriptions he has proposed, Olav Asheim challenged the referential use in recent years, asserting that there is no genuinely referential use of definite descriptions. However, first of all, Asheim’s analysis of the anaphora use of definite descriptions is unclear and not thorough. Second, his refutation of referential use based on Searle’s primary aspect and secondary aspect is inadequate. Third, it is also wrong for him to correspond attributive use with Russell’s analysis of definite descriptions. To summarize, the anaphora use and the referential use can be interpreted from different perspectives, thus there is no substantive conflict or contradiction between them. Therefore, the former cannot replace or deny the latter.
