Objective To investigate the incidence of thirst and its impact on discomfort in patients undergoing non-gastrointestinal surgery during early postoperative period. Methods During September 10,2019 to October 30,2019,119 patients who were scheduled to undergo non-gastrointestinal surgery in our hospital were enrolled in this study.Visual Analogue Scale(VAS)was used to evaluate the severity of thirst, which was then divided into three grades at postsurgical 1 and 6 hours. At the same time, ask the patient whether there are other postoperative discomforts. Results At postsurgical 1 hour,72.3%patients felt moderate and severe thirst while this percent increased to 89.1%at postsurgical 6 hours.46.2%patients deemed that fasting another more 6 hours after surgery was miserable. What’s more,29.6%patients thought thirst was the most uncomfortable event in postoperative period. Conclusion Thirst occurs in the early postoperative period, which becomes more serious due to the stipulation of fasting another more 6 hours after surgery.Medical staff should dispose thirst early on the premise of safety.
