论信息结构背后的两个系统及其对英语句法的制约——兼谈英语写作构句教学 被引量:4

摘要 英语句法结构构建的信息理据,须从语言系统和认知系统两个层面来同时探讨。语言系统对信息结构的常规要求是已知信息在前而新信息在后。上述两个系统对新旧信息的认定,有时是不一致的。这种不一致表现出两种情况,二者均是由信息身份的转化造成的。其一是,认知系统中的旧信息,在向语言结构投射的过程中.通过纵聚合多选一的方式.实现了向语言结构新信息的转化。其二是,认知系统中的已知信息和新信息,通过特定条件下的认知加工而直接调换身份。语言系统与认知系统对信息结构的认定发生矛盾时,后者起统领作用。两个系统均对英语句法具有一定的制约作用,可直接影响某些结构本身的成立以及另外一些结构在特定上下文中的修辞效果。 The information rationale for the construction of English syntactic structures should be explored on two levels,i.e.,language system and cognitive system.The general requirement for information structure in the language system is that known information comes before new information.The two systems are sometimes inconsistent in their identification of new and old information.Such inconsistency finds expression in two cases,both of which are caused by the transformation of information identity.One is that the known information in the cognitive system is transformed into new information in the language structure through the one-from-many choice based on the paradigmatic relation in the process of its projection to the language structure.The other is that the known and the new information in the cognitive system directly exchange their identities through cognitive processing under special conditions.The cognitive system plays a leading role when a contradiction arises between the language system and the cognitive system.Both of the two systems have certain constraints on the English syntax,which can directly affect the grammaticality of some structures and the rhetorical effect of some others in a given context.
