The image of Jivajivaka entered the Central Plain along with Buddhism's eastward spread. In the process of secularization and localization,it retained the original image of"evil friend"and auspicious and happy bird in Buddhism.Meanwhile,it gradually derived the image of male and female love as similar as the image of living and dying together or deep love between husband and wife,as well as the image of interdependent blood relationship. This paper studies the image of the Jivajivaka in poetry and Fu,and compares it with that of the legendary bird flying in pairs,so as to reveal the fixed opinion and changeable characteristics of the image of the Jivajivaka in the development and change,as well as the persistence and compromise of foreign images in the process of localiza⁃tion.
