Objective Through the investigation and analysis of the first case of the novel coronavirus pneumonia in Shizhong district of Neijiang City, this study aims to discuss its transmission rules and epidemic characteristics. Methods According to the guidelines of epidemiological investigation in the“Pneumonia Prevention and Control Plan for New Coronavirus Infection(Third edition)”issued by China Health Council, the occurrence, development and transmission process of this case were described by referring to medical records and combining with field epidemiological investigation. Then, the epidemiological characteristics of this epidemic were analyzed.Samples of acute respiratory tract were collected, and real-time RT-PCR was used to detect the nucleic acid of new coronavirus. Results The first patient was a 36-year-old male in Shizhong district, developed fever and dry cough on January 29,2020,and showed positive results for novel coronavirus nucleic acid from nose and throat swabs.Four confirmed cases have been detected among people in close contacts, and the remaining close contacts have not developed symptoms. Conclusion The epidemic was the first case of new coronavirus in Neijiang City, indicating that early detection of new coronavirus nucleic acid should be strengthened for confirmed cases and close contacts of asymptomatic infected people.Meanwhile, chest imaging examination for suspected cases should be increased to reduce misdiagnosis.
