摘要
17、18世纪,古典主义和启蒙主义思潮占据统治地位。这一时期的评论家大都以古典主义审美原则和批评标准评论莎士比亚的作品,莱莫、德莱登、约翰孙、伏尔泰就是其中的代表。他们的观点鲜明地体现了古典主义莎评的特色,同时又显露出古典主义莎评不可避免的局限性。通过对其评论分析可以发现,古典主义评论的局限性主要表现在对莎剧破坏三一律、得体原则的指责和对莎剧缺乏道德目的的责难两个方面。对这两个方面的分析论证,有助于更加理性地感知古典主义莎评的本质和特点。
Classicism and enlightenment dominated in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The critics in this period mostly criticized Shakespeare’s works according to the classical aesthetic principles and critical standards, and Thomas Rymer, John Dryden, Voltaire and Samuel Johnson are representatives of these people. Their views clearly reflect the characteristics of classical criticism on Shakespeare, while inevitably revealing its limitations. Through the analysis of their criticism, we can find that the limitations of classical criticism are mainly reflected in the following two aspects: the accusation of Shakespeare’s plays breaking the classical unities and the principle of propriety, and the censure of Shakespeare’s plays lacking moral purposes.?The analysis and demonstration of these two aspects is conducive to a more rational perception of classical criticism’s essence and characteristics.
