The natural conditions of Hunan and Hubei regions are very suitable for tea cultivation. Since the Sui and Tang dynasties, tea has been cultivated in Hunan and Hubei regions, which was listed as Shannan tea area in Lu Yu’s The Book of Tea. During the period of Taiping Rebellion, the southern section of Sino-Russian Tea Road was interrupted. The shrewd merchants in Shanxi Province turned their eyes to Hunan and Hubei regions and transferred the tea source area of Sino-Russian Tea Road from Wuyi mountain to Hunan and Hubei regions. The merchants introduced the tea cultivation technology and processing technology of Wuyi mountain into Hunan and Hubei regions, forming two central tea areas, Anhua in Hunan and Yangloudong in Hubei. Anhua and Yangloudong tea districts produce black tea and brick tea, which are popular with Russian and European consumers. Under the promotion of various factors, the tea industry in the central tea areas of Anhua and Yangloudong is thriving, which promotes the development of local economy. Yangloudong also once became a world famous tea export center.
