摘要
20世纪初,英国由于工业革命所经历的前所未有的经济发展和社会变革成为西方社会的缩影。通过研究20世纪初英国的群体心理特性,我们可以进一步了解西方社会在此阶段的社会心理特点。本文运用文学智能分析法,通过对毛姆小说代表人物的人格和生活满意度的分析,间接了解这一时代下英国群体的社会心理。研究结果发现小说中人物的大五人格和生活满意度在性别上无显著差异,心理特征呈现较高开放性,较低外向性,中等偏上的生活满意度水平。这些心理特征的形成可能源于男性与女性适应了经济地位、社会地位以及家庭关系的发展。
Due to the industrial revolution,British came into across rapid economy development and society change in early 20th century,which can be considered as a microcosm of western countries.It is thus very critical to identify the psychological characteristics of British population,which may help us further understand the psychosocial characteristics of western society during that period.In this paper,we propose to predict big-five personality and life satisfaction of the characters in Maugham s novels by using machine learning models.We found that there was no significant difference between male and female in personality and life satisfaction.The novel characters were identified with high openness and low extraversion,while their life satisfaction were a bit higher than middle.The psychological characteristics of British population might be because of the adaptation of economic development,social change and family role in early 20th century.
