Based on the imprinting theory and from the perspective of altruism, this paper studies the impact of CEO's early famine experience on corporate donations by using relevant data of A-share listed companies from 2009 to 2016. The results show that CEOs with early famine experiences had higher levels of donations and lower levels of on-the-job consumption, indicating that they were more frugal to themselves and more generous to others. The research also shows that CEO’ s managerial discretion has positive moderating effect on corporate donation. The above conclusions improve the research on the motivation of corporate donation, and have great practical significance to perfect the corporate governance mechanism and promote corporates to fulfill their social responsibility.
