A Qualitative Study on Professional Identity of EFL Graduate Students

摘要 To date, research studies on students’professional identities have primarily focused on teacher education or nursing program, with little attention paid to language learners’ professional identities in the study. This study aims to explore the characteristics of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) graduate students’professional identities as well as the possible factors influencinggraduate students’ professional identities. A case study of six English as a Foreign Language (EFL) graduate students was conducted, and qualitative interviews were carried out to make sense students’ characteristics and factors influencing their professionalidentities. The findings indicated that the overall condition of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) graduate students’ professionalidentities was generally higher, and revealed a string of factors influencing their professional identities. This study has implicationfor English as a Foreign Language (EFL) graduate students’ professional development, shedding light on how English as a ForeignLanguage (EFL) graduate students’professional identities can be facilitated.
