This study is conducted to investigate the effects of summer heat stress on physiological and serum biochemical indices of beef cattle in southwest China.Eight meat rabbit were fed in normal and heat stress conditions.During the trials, temperature and relative humidity of rabbit house were determined. The serum samples of meat rabbit were collected, and then physiological and serum biochemical indices of meat rabbit were determined. The results show as follows:(1)rectal temperature, ear root temperature, tail root temperature and breathing frequency of meat rabbit in heat stress are extremely higher than those in normal period(P<0.01),neck temperature is significantly higher than those in normal period(P<0.05);(2)Compared with normal period, triiodothyronine(T 3)content in serum is not changed(P>0.05),but thyroxine(T 4)content is significantly lower on the 30th day(P<0.05),cortisol(COR)content is extremely increased(P<0.01),heat shock protein 70(HSP70)content is significantly increased(P<0.05),malondialdehyde(MDA)content is increased on the first day and then gradually recovered to normal(P>0.05).These results indicate that high temperature and high humidity induce heat stress of meat rabbit, and heat stress can enhance the rectal temperature, ear root temperature, neck temperature, tail root temperature and breathing frequency, disorder endocrine and reduce antioxidant ability.
