The average weight of(2.46±0.07)g and total number of 1 200 tail juvenile Acipenser dabryanus were chosen in this experiment to determine the effects of different substrate environment on growth performance.Juvenile Acipenser dabryanus were randomly divided into four treatments, reared in sand substrate, pebble substrate A,pebble substrate B and mixed substrates(sand and pebble)for 12 weeks. The results showed that highest weight gain rate was 1 274.64%of sand substrate, lowest weight gain rate was 915.7%of pebble substrate. There was significant difference observed between pebble substrate A,pebble substrate B,sand substrate and mixed substrates. The survival rate of fish was the highest(92.33%)in the sand group. The survival rate of fish in the pebble substrate B was the second high.Fish survival rate was the lowest in mixed substrates(56%).The maximum body length and total length of the fish in different groups had the same tendency.Significant differences were observed among pebble substrate A,pebble substrate B,sand substrate and mixed substrates.Crude protein, lipid content in body and muscle were significant effected by the substrate. The suitable substrate for juvenile Acipenser dabryanus was the sand substrate, pebble substrate and mixed substrates based on the weight gain rate and the survival rate.
