摘要
法国启蒙思想家卢梭的《爱弥儿》是西方哲学史与教育史上的一代经典。其在中国的"文本旅行"始自晚清,在1949年之前,先后出版过《教育世界》杂志连载本(中岛端译,1903年)与商务印书馆"汉译世界名著"丛书本(魏肇基译,1923年)两个中译本。前者是在中文世界中最早被明确标识为"教育小说"的文本,后者对于《爱弥儿》在中国的文类性质从"教育小说"走向"学术名著"至关重要。而从"教育小说"到"学术名著",不同的文类身份实则承担了彼此既有联系又有区别的社会—文化功能。此两种译本关涉的翻译、文学、教育以及思想图景见证的是现代中国历史进程的一段缩影。
The French Enlightenment thinker Rousseau's Emile is a classic in the history of Western philosophy and education.Its“textual journey”in China began in the late Qing Dynasty.Before1949,it had been published in two Chinese translations:the version of Education World magazineseries(translated by Nagajima Tan,1903)and the version in the series World Famous Works”published by Commercial Press(translated by Wei Zhaoji,1923).The formertranslation is the first text which is clearly identified as an ueducational fiction”world;and the later version has played a vital role in transforming Emile to an uacademic masterpiece”in the literary genres in China.The different genre identitiesassume different social and cultural functions.The related translation,literature,education andthoughts embodied in these two translations reflect a microcosm of the process of modem Chinese history.
