This paper reviewed the world economy, shipping and shipbuilding market in 2016, and forecasted the market development trend in 2017. The global economic growth in 2016 remained weak, however the overall situation is expected to be improved in 2017. The keywords of 2016 are bankruptcy and integration, while that of 2017 is recuperation. The global new shipbuilding market turned down sharply in 2016, however with a substantially increase in cruise ship orders. Whereas, the new shipbuilding market is expected to rebound in 2017. Though the market as a whole remains dip, some ship types may be the first to rebound. The research and development of new technologies are highlighted to achieve breakthroughs.
